Why I...Get the Picture
In 1992 I began shooting photos for one of Oregons largest privately held companies and my commercial work expanded from there.
I started taking sports photos 1995 when my, then 5 year old son was playing t-ball. It was something I enjoyed doing and it was a great way to preserve that particular time in his childhood. When we moved to Sisters all of our children became involved with SOAR Sports. Each has spent their time on the tournament teams, and I have even coached a few teams! There are very few pictures of our children playing Basketball during those years, because of my coaching as well as the fact that I didn't have the right equipment for shooting fast indoor sports, the photos I did take were either blurry or I was just a second off of the shot I really wanted. As they started playing HS sports I started taking photos again, and I invested in some better equipment that would allow me to shoot Basketball without the blur or having to wait for the flash to warm up, as I did, other parents would ask for photos of their kids. The business grew out of a suggestion from another parent who thought I needed a website to sell my photos of the games I shoot. The benefit has been two-fold, I can share my photos with a larger audience and the officials don't have to hear my opinions quite so often. They still get to hear it some, especially if it is a really bad call.
In 2000 I moved into Portrait work and have many returning customers. One customer said "It is all of us that are so happy you took our photos. They are the best ever. You may have started something with the Miller's."
Another customer recently sent me an email thanking me for being at their child's sporting event "your message on your home page could not say it better, I have children from 34-17 and 4 grandchildren and boy the pictures I have missed from either having bad equipment, dead battery, operator error (most often) working the concession stand, etc., I have few good pictures. Thank you for your pictures, it is funny I was thinking that day I should have called a photographer to capture some pics of the girls and then there you were, you are awesome, thank you! Just a great example of what you put out into the universe."
I started shooting the Shootout in 2006, for two reasons I love basketball, and I think parents and kids alike should be able to "preserve" that time. I hope you enjoy the photos, and if you have any questions or comments feel free to contact me Craig May .
I am passionate about taking pictures, and enjoy sharing them. My philosophy is that photos are meant to be shared and enjoyed. After countless hours of photographing my childrens sporting events, commercial layouts, family and senior portraits as well as natural and wildlife stills.
With Digital Photography prices on developing have come down, you only have to print the prints you want and my prices reflect that. I get the picture at a fair and afordable price.
